Non-Local Foods I Eat

There are some foods I eat that I can't get locally, but that I am not willing to give up. I do try to buy organically produced and/or Fair Trade versions of these items, though.

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Spices
  • Cooking oils (olive, canola, sesame)
  • Oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Fish that cannot be sustainably fished in local waters
  • Vinegars (red, white, balsamic, sherry, cider)

There are also foods I eat that I don't know where to find locally -- please let me know if you can help me find these somewhere near NYC!

  • Nonfat Greek yogurt (like Fage brand) -- I know that Ronnybrook Dairy has a Greek yogurt product, but it is not nonfat.
  • Low-fat cottage cheese*
  • Low-fat cream cheese*
  • High fiber, no sugar cereal (like Nature's Path Smart Bran)*
  • Aged Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
  • Crispbread (like Wasa brand)
* I buy organic versions of the starred products.
